Indian truck driver held with 17.6kg hilsa in C'nawabganj

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today (7 October) detained an Indian truck driver with 17.6kg of hilsa fish, being smuggled to India through Sonamsjid land port area under Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj.
"On a tip-off, on the eve of departure of one Indian empty truck from Bangladesh to India, the BGB members searched the truck at about 9:40am and recovered 17.6kg of hilsa stuffed in a box," said a press release signed by BGB Mahananda Battalion Commander Lt Col Golam Kibria.
The Indian truck driver was identified as Alok Mondal, 22, son of Ranjit Mondal, an inhabitant of Kanchanta Tiakathi village under English Bazar police station of Malda district.
The BGB said the seizure value of hilsa and the truck is estimated about Tk7,035, 200.
The detainee, along with the truck and fish, was handed over to Shibganj Police Station for legal action, the release added.
