Jagonews24.com acting editor, bdnews24.com chief editor sued in Thakurgaon
Baliadangi upazila Swechchhasebak League president filed the case with Baliadangi police station
A local leader of Awami Swechchhasebak League in Thakurgaon has sued four people including Acting Editor of Jagonews24com Mahiuddin Sarker, and Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com Toufiq Imroz Khalidi for publishing reports on alleged embezzlement of relief rice.
The other two persons accused in the case are Shawon Amin and Rahim Shuvo.
Mominul Islam Islam Bhashani, president of Baliadangi upazila Swechchhasebak League, an associate body of the ruling Awami League, filed the case with Baliadangi police station on Friday night.
Baliadangi police station Officer-in-Charge Habibul Haque Prodhan confirmed the matter, reports Jagonews.
Mominul Islam claimed that 68 sacks of rice meant for selling at Tk10 were recovered from his locality a few days earlier.
On April 9, Upazila Food Controller Nikhil Chandra Barman filed a case against some people involved with the embezzlement.
But the day before the filing of the case, Shawon Amin and Rahim Shuvu posted on their Facebook account about the misappropriation of the government rice and accused Mominul of the rice theft.
The next day Bdnews24 and Jagonews24 published reports over the matter involving Mominul and his brother who is the chairman of Palashbari union parishad under the upazila, said Mominul, adding that the reports have tarnished the image of him as well as that of his party -- the Awami League.
Confirming the news of the case filing, Habibul Haque said they would look into the matter.
He said the case was filed under sections 25, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act 2018.
Sub-Inspector Rambabu Roy is investigating the case. Rambabu said he received the case document on Sunday.
