Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com Toufique Imrose Khalidi faces charges of acquiring Tk42 crore beyond his known sources of income
The High Court on Wednesday granted eight weeks anticipatory bail to Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com Toufique Imrose Khalidi in a case filed on charges of acquiring wealth beyond his known sources of income.
Last month the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case after it found Tk42 crore in Khalidi's possession of which the graft watchdog believed he had earned illegally.
A High Court bench comprising of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after hearing a bail petition by the accused.

At the hearing, Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC, while Abdul Matin Khasru, Momtaz Uddin Ahmed and Mahbub Shafique appeared for the accused.
Khasru said after the eight-week bail period, Khalidi will have to surrender at the trial court in this case.
On July 30, ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan filed the case at its Dhaka Integrated Office-1.
According to the case statements, Khalidi possessed Tk42 crore in four accounts with HSBC, Eastern Bank, Southeast Bank and Mutual Trust Bank, for which the ACC said no legal source was found.
Preliminary data indicates that he earned the money through an illegal process by creating fake documents, added the first information report of the case.
On November 5 last year, the bdnews24.com editor-in-chief was served with a summons to appear before the ACC as part of an investigation regarding this matter.
Later on November 26, the commission quizzed Khalidi for nearly five hours at its Dhaka headquarters.
