Jamuna erosion devours 25 houses, cropland in Tangail
A victim said the erosion was too intense for the locals to save their belongings
Erosion caused by the Jamuna River near the east end of the Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge in Tangail has devoured 25 houses and cultivable land in the region.
The erosion began on Wednesday afternoon, also destroying trees and roads in Beltia and Gorila Bari area.
A victim said the erosion was too intense for the locals to save their belongings.
"The authorities will dump Geo bags on the riverbanks to mitigate the damage from this Thursday," said Sub-Divisional Officer of Tangail Water Development Board Alamgir Hossain.
Addressing the issue, lawmaker of Tangail-4 Kalihati constituency Hassan Imam Khan Sohail Hazari said, "The dredging will start from rivers Jamuna to Buriganga after the water level drops.
"The government has already allocated Tk230 crore for the dredging project."
