Jubo Dal activist killed in Sylhet clash allegedly over school students' dispute, 6 detained
The incident occurred around 10:00pm yesterday (25 November) in the Bahubal area under Shah Paran Police Station
A Jubo Dal activist named Bilal Ahmed Munshi was killed in a clash between two groups allegedly over a school students' dispute in the Shah Paran area of Sylhet city, police said.
The incident occurred around 10:00pm yesterday (25 November) in the Bahubal area under Shah Paran Police Station.
He sustained serious injuries in the clash and was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
According to hospital sources, the deceased suffered a severe wrist injury, resulting in excessive bleeding that ultimately caused his death.
"No case has been filed in connection with the incident yet. However, police have detained 6 people for questioning. The clash occurred due to a dispute over establishing dominance," said Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) Mohammad Saiful Islam.
"Police are investigating the incident and trying to arrest those involved in the killing."
Saiful Islam further said the body was handed over to the family after an autopsy around 2:00pm today (26 November).
Meanwhile, locals, including Jubo Dal activists, staged a protest with Bilal's body, demanding justice for his killing. They blocked the Sylhet-Tamabil road at Shah Paran Gate around 3:00pm.
According to local sources, there had been an ongoing dispute between two school students - Sakib and Rashed - in the Bahubal area for several days over a senior-junior issue. Some people involved in this dispute were divided into two groups.
A local arbitration was also held to resolve the issue, but the situation did not calm down. As a result, yesterday, some leaders and activists of the Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal's Sylhet Shahjalal suburban group aligned with Sakib. They went to the Bahubal area with locally made weapons where they engaged in a clash with the other group.
During the clash, Bilal was seriously injured by a sharp weapon.
