July proclamation must state rights, protection of Dalit, Harijan, Tafsili communities: Citizen’s Committee
The July uprising proclamation must clearly state the fundamental rights and protection of the Dalit, Harijan and Tafsili communities, the National Citizen's Committee said yesterday.
Leaders of the committee distributed leaflets among the community members in the Gopibagh TT Para Railway Colony, yesterday evening.
Local leaders of the community said their main issue is housing crisis.
Central member of the committee Joynal Abedin Shishir said, "Two thousand students and people have sacrificed their lives to eliminate discrimination in Bangladesh. We do not want to see any more discrimination. The fundamental rights of the Dalit, Harijan, and Tafsili communities must be ensured. Their issues should be clearly stated in the July proclamation."
Another central member Kailash Chandra Rabidas said, "These communities are the most neglected and oppressed in the country. Structural protection for them must be arranged. This colony's residents were evicted in 2019 without rehabilitation. It is crucial to construct multi-storied buildings in the area to provide them with permanent housing."
Local residents expressed appreciation for the initiative of the National Citizens' Committee and called for immediate action to fulfill their demands.
