July uprising injured bring out 'Rickshaw Michhil'
The event has been organised on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, which is being observed today around the world
A procession dubbed "Rally for Justice" was brought out today (10 December) by the students and individuals who were injured during the July-August uprising, which toppled the autocratic Awami League government on 5 August.
They started the "Rickshaw Michhil", under the banner "Warriors of July", in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh at around 1:10pm.
Until the filing of this report at 1:45pm, the procession was heading towards Suhrawardy Udyan to participate in a human rights rally called by Mayer Daak, a platform for family members of victims of enforced disappearances.
The event was organised on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, which is being observed today in Bangladesh like elsewhere in the world in a befitting manner with the theme "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now".
Different organisations and human rights campaigners have also chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day.
Ibrahim Mahmud, a volunteer of Mayer Daak and a student of Dhaka University, told The Business Standard that a mass gathering of victims has already started at Suhrawardy Udyan. Victims are coming there from different places. Those who have been unjustly oppressed in the last 17 years are gathering.
Families of those injured and killed in the July-August movement are also coming there under the banner of "Warriors of July".
Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was present at the procession.
