Killing of Tofazzal at DU: Cousin sues Fazlul Haque hall provost, 14 others
Tofazzal’s maternal cousin Asma Akhter filed the case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court today (25 September)
Prof Shah Muhammad Masum, provost of Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall at Dhaka University, and 14 others have been sued in a case filed over the recent brutal killing of Toffazzal Hossain at the university.
Tofazzal's maternal cousin Asma Akhter filed the case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court today (25 September).
Judge Akhteruzzaman of the court accepted the case, advocate Nazmul Hasan, lawyer for the plaintiff, told the media.
However, he said as police are already investigating the incident under a separate case filed with Shahbagh Police Station by DU authorities over the incident, the judge ordered a halt to investigation in the latest case.
The court also asked investigators to submit their report on 25 November.
"The court will decide later whether the case against these accused will proceed after receiving the investigation report from the previous case," said lawyer Nazmul.
Other accused in the case filed by Asma include Jalal Mia, Suman Mia, Firoz Kabir, Abdul Samad, Mottakin Sakin Shah, Al Hossain Sajjad, Wajibul Alam, Ahsan Ullah, Fazle Rabbi, Yamus Zaman, Rashed Kamal Anik, Shahriar Kabir Shovon, Mehedi Hasan Imran and Md Sultan, according to the case statement.
All of them have been identified as students of Dhaka University.
