Kurigram gets new DC as Sultana withdrawn
The Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin was withdrawn for misusing her power
The government appointed Md Rezaul Karim as the new deputy commissioner (DC) of Kurigram removing Sultana Parvin on Monday.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification in this regard.
The newly appointed deputy commissioner was ordered to take the office immediately.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin was withdrawn for punishing a journalist through a mobile court misusing her power.
A mobile court on Friday midnight sentenced Journalist Ariful Islam Rigan, district correspondent of online news portal Bangla Tribune, to one year in jail and fined him Tk 50,000 for "possession of liquor and hemp".
But Ariful's wife Mostarima Sardar Nitu claimed that a group of law enforcers, including three magistrates entered their home at Charuapara around midnight and took her husband away forcefully.
Later Ariful was released from jail yesterday.
Three magistrates, who were in the mobile court, were also withdrawn for their alleged involvement in torturing journalist Ariful.
They are - Senior Assistant Commissioner Nazim Uddin, Assistant Commissioner Rintu Bikash Chakma and Assistant Commissioner SM Rahatul Islam.
According to a notification issued by the public administration ministry, they will be now attached to the ministry.
Earlier on Sunday, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said the deputy commissioner of Kurigram has been withdrawn over the incident.
