Case filed against Sairu Resort in Bandarban under VAT Act
The resort was filing an average of Tk1 lakh returns per month, whereas it was supposed to pay Tk10 lakh per month
The VAT Intelligence Directorate has filed a case against Sairu Hill Resort of Bandarban for evading TK2.12 crore VAT.
The case was filed with VAT Intelligence Directorate under the VAT Act.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of VAT officials conducted a raid at the resort on 30 November last, seizing information and other documents from the computer of the resort.
Scrutinising the documents, VAT officials finalised the amount of evaded VAT. This case will be judged by the Chattogram VAT Commissioner following judicial process. If the allegation is proved, the fine can be two times of the evaded VAT.
According to the investigation, the resort authorities had been submitting their returns to the Bandarban VAT office keeping their actual sales account secret. Their actual sales accounts were recovered during the VAT officials' drive.
The company was filing an average of Tk1 lakh returns per month.
According to the investigation, Sairu Resort was supposed to pay Tk10 lakh per month in VAT. As such, they paid only one tenth of VAT.
