Man dies after being tortured in Faridpur
A man died after being tortured in Faridpur's Kanaipur yesterday (10 January).
The deceased was identified as Obaidur Khan, 28, a tractor driver. His elder brother Rajib Khan confirmed that he died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 9pm.
Family members said Obaidur went to buy motorcycle oil at an oil pump near Kanaipur BSCIC Industrial City around 3:30pm. At that time, a group of 10 to 12 people picked him up, took him behind Faridpur Jute Fibers mill and tortured him, they said.
Upon receiving news, his relatives rescued him and took him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Dr Tahira Hossain, an on-duty doctor at the hospital, said, "Obaidur suffered injuries to eyes and head, causing massive bleeding in the brain. In addition, his left leg was broken. He was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment."
Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said, "As far as I know, Obaidur was attacked because he was working as a police informer. Legal action will be taken after investigation if a complaint is received in this regard."
