UP member waives rents for flats, shops in Brahmanbaria
The waived rents for April and May would have amounted to around Tk80,000
Mohsin Khandaker, a union parishad (UP) member in Brahmanbaria, has waived rents of his flats and shops on humanitarian grounds, considering the ongoing crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mohsin is a member of Ward 8 under the Suhilpur union parishad of the district.
The UP member – also the organising secretary of Sadar upazila Jubo League – owns two flats and eight shops, for which he waived the rent for all tenants for April and May.
The waived rents would have amounted to around Tk80,000 for the two months.
Mohsin, along with his wife, also distributed relief among the jobless and poor in his area and urged other house owners to waive the rents for their tenants amid the coronavirus shutdown.
One of Mohsin's tenants, Sazu Hazari said his landlord has assured them of full support until the situation returns to normalcy.
Mohsin told The Business Standard, "I have distributed relief in two phases as per the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to stand beside the people amid the onslaught of Covid-19."
The UP member added that he will continue his support for the people until the situation improves.
