Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said mobile courts will be deployed in the city's cattle markets from Tuesday.
The mayor made the remarks while exchanging views with reporters after giving the chief guest's speech on the occasion of National Fisheries Week 2020 at Dhanmondi Lake in the capital on Monday afternoon said a press release issued by DSCC.
Taposh said, "Considering the 8 parliamentary constituencies that are present in the realm of the DSCC, we have leased places to set up 11 cattle markets at 11 different places."
"We had a meeting with the lessees on Sunday to help manage these markets properly. The lessees have been given strict directives to rigorously abide by the conditions provided by us."
"So, from tomorrow we will run mobile courts in the markets to ensure their compliance with all those conditions. I will take strict action against anyone who violates the terms of the lease," added Taposh.
The Mayor also said that through the mass media he has seen that people have illegally expanded the cattle markets outside the leased area and inside residential areas.
The mayor observed that this is not at all acceptable, and cattle markets cannot be set up outside the leased area.
Taposh said, "We have not given any scope for setting up illegal cattle markets inside the DSCC and are strictly monitoring and controlling such activities."
Expressing the hope that the responsibility of solving the problem of waterlogging in Dhaka city will be handed over to the city corporation, the DSCC mayor further said, "In the meantime, we are preparing a project that involves ten ponds, canals and water bodies in the city. The project will be submitted soon."
"I believe that we will be able to solve the problem of waterlogging in the long run as well as address other problems that the people of Dhaka are facing gradually in phases" added the mayor.
