Mobile passport offices to be set up overseas for migrants

The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment recommended setting up mobile passport offices overseas, especially in the Middle East, to provide services to migrants.

The committee also suggested taking an undertaking from migrants before they leave the country with a "visit visa" that they will return before the expiry of the visa. They should not tarnish the image of the country by outstaying the stay permit, it said.
The committee also insisted on lowering the ticket prices of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
It said the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourismwould have to take measures to get financial support from the government to repatriatemigrants who had become jobless.
Apart from all these, the committee emphasised the importance of discussions between officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, non-residential Bangladeshis, leaders of Commercially Important Person Association and passport and immigration officials to ensure that Biman plays a vital role in safe migration.
