Mosquito extermination at Vatara on 5th day of DNCC’s crash programme
About 1,400 mosquito exterminators have participated in this operation
A ten-day-long zone-based mosquito eradication crash programme conducted by DNCC began its campaign on 8 March and on Saturday morning, it was initiated in the Vatara police station area under Zone-9.
After inspecting the campaign on Saturday, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said, "We have changed the method to run this crash programme due to the increase in Culex mosquito infestation. The operation, which started on 8 March, will be carried out in every area of the North. There are entomologists with us to monitor everything. Besides, a third party organisation is inspecting and will only report to me."
Mentioning everyone with privately-owned pond should keep their property clean, Mayor said, "With piles of dirt, billions of mosquito larvae can be seen in those privately-owned ditches and ponds. Owners will be responsible for mosquito breeding if these places are not kept clean and action will be taken against them."
About 1,400 mosquito exterminators have participated in this operation.
