Mushtaque Chowdhury joins VisionSpring Global Board
Dr Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, convener of Bangladesh Health Watch, has been elected to the global Board of Directors of VisionSpring, a US-based social enterprise accelerating the use of eyeglasses in emerging and frontier markets.
He is the first Bangladeshi to join the coveted role, reads a press release.
In a recent letter to Dr Chowdhury, VisionSpring's Nominating and Governance Committee Chairman Dr Reade Fahs wrote, "I can think of few people better qualified to help VisionSpring achieve our long-term mission of insuring everyone in the world who needs glasses has them given your broad range of scaled public health success and decades-long experience partnering with VisionSpring."
Mushtaque is a renowned expert with more than 40 years of experience in global development, public health, education, and poverty reduction. He has had long interest in VisionSpring's work through his tenure at BRAC, where he previously served as its Vice Chair.
He is currently a professor at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, a position he has held since 2004.
