Neo JMB member arrested from East Basabo
The arrestee was identified as Shibbir Ahmad (22), son of Abdul Awal and Kohinoor Begum. Shibbir hails from Bagerhat district.
The Counter-Terrorism Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested a member of the banned militant group Neo JMB from the Sabujbagh area of East Basabo, Dhaka on Thursday.
The arrestee was identified as Shibbir Ahmad, 22. He is from Bagerhat district.
According to a press release of police, preliminary inquiries revealed that Shibbir had been associated with the new JMB since its inception. He built relationships with IS-inspired members from different countries including Philippine, Indonesia, US, France and Afghanistan through a variety of strategies.
During interrogation, he informed that he collected money from foreign nationals in various ways to strengthen Neo JMB in the country and conducted subversive activities.
Shibbir Ahmad passed Dakhil from Basabo Saidia Dakhil Madrasa in Dhaka in 2017 and was conducting extremist propaganda and militant activities under the guise of a muazzin and assistant imam in various mosques.
A case has been filed against Shibbir at Sabujbagh police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He will be handed over to the court along with remand application.
