No RAB member went into hiding: RAB spokesperson
RAB members never used lethal weapons on the students or the public, the RAB official claims
Not a single member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has gone into hiding following the ousting of the Hasina-led Awami League government on 5 August, according to RAB's Legal and Media wing director Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous.
"However, a few police officers have reportedly fled the country," he said yesterday at a press briefing at RAB's media centre in Karwan Bazar, responding to questions from journalists.
"RAB is a composite force, consisting of around 10,000 personnel. Among them, 44% members of the force comes from the police," said Ferdous
He emphasised that RAB members have never used lethal weapons against students or the general public. "During the movement, RAB stood with the students, and we continue working to ensure the success of the uprising," he added.
Speaking about the arrests, he mentioned that a total of 1,170 individuals, 39 top-ranked leaders, have been arrested since the fall of the Hasina-led government.
Additionally, 219 firearms along with 10,642 rounds of ammunition have been recovered by the force since 5 August, he added.
RAB continues to arrest high-profile individuals (big fish) every day, including those who are key accused in various cases, the RAB official also said.
