Condolences pour in for Latifur Rahman
The death of Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman cast a pall of gloom in the country’s business arena
Eminent personalities including ministers, lawmakers and businessmen have mourned the death of Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman.
He breathed his last around 11am on Wednesday at his ancestral home in Cumilla.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal expressed profound shock at his death. In a condolence message, the minister recalled Latifur's contribution to the country's economy and prayed for the departed soul.
Kamal also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and State Minister Dr Murad Hasan, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman, State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk, Deputy Minister AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam have expressed shock at his death.
Political leaders from other parties including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Kader also expressed shock at the death of Latifur Rahman.
Business tycoon Latifur Rahman served the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI), apex trade organization of the country, as a director. The incumbent FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim expressed deep shock at the death of Latifur.
Fazle Fahim said Latifur's death is an irreparable loss to the country and nation.
Latifur Rahman also served as the President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) for seven years in three different tenures. The MCCI also expressed its sympathy to the bereaved family.
Meantime, Dhaka Chamber President Shams Mahmud said Latifur had a remarkable contribution to business, investment expansion and employment generation in private sector.
"His passing is not only a loss to his family, rather the entire country has lost a successful entrepreneur," he added.
Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) CEO Ferdaus Ara Begum said, "His sincere contribution to the nation will always be remembered with great admiration and gratitude.
"His contribution to commerce, employment generation, industrialization, entrepreneurship and social development will always be remembered and cherished."
The CEO says Latifur was instrumental in the development of business, trade and economy of the country.
