Police seek 7-day remand for Efran Selim
Earlier today, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Md Tajul Islam said, “Erfan Selim will be sacked today from the post of councilor as he has been sent to jail by a mobile court.”
Police have sought to take Efran Selim on a 7-day remand for interrogation in a case him, his driver and five others of assaulting a government staff and issuing death threat.
Abdullah Hill Kafi, additional deputy commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Earlier today, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Md Tajul Islam said, "Erfan Selim will be sacked today from the post of councilor as he has been sent to jail by a mobile court."
"According to the law, he will be suspended first and later, will be permanently dismissed," said the minister.
Erfan Selim is the No 30 ward councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation.
On Sunday evening, Erfan, son of MP Haji Selim reportedly assaulted a navy officer and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area after the official's motorcycle collided with Erfan's car.
The military officer filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday morning accusing the lawmaker's son and others.
Following the case, RAB launched the drive and arrested Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Md Jahidul Islam.
A mobile court on Monday sentenced Erfan along with his driver to jail for one year for illegally having liquor and possessing walkie-talkies.
