The BNP will meet Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to express its concerns and stance regarding the recent incidents of vandalism, including those at Dhanmondi 32 and other locations across the country, reports local media outlets.
According to a Prothom Alo report, the party's standing committee has decided to send a delegation on Monday (10 February) for this purpose.
The report also states that BNP's top policymakers do not support the recent unrest in Dhaka and other parts of the country, which comes six months after the student-led uprising that ousted the Awami League government.
They suspect these acts of vandalism and disorder might be part of a "broader conspiracy" – either to prolong the next national election process or to pave the way for a different political outcome.
According to media reports, a BNP delegation is also set to meet with the Election Commission, though the date has yet to be finalised.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury are currently on a visit to the United States and are expected to return by Sunday evening. They may be present at the meetings with both the Chief Adviser and the Chief Election Commissioner, the reports suggest.
On Friday (8 February), at a BNP Standing Committee meeting held at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan, senior leaders discussed recent incidents of vandalism, including those at Dhanmondi 32, as well as reports from reform commissions and the overall political situation.
The BNP issued an urgent directive on Friday, instructing its leaders and activists across the country to refrain from any unrest or violent activities.
The directive stated that, given the current situation, party members must not engage in acts of violence, including arson attacks on opposition homes or vandalism of murals. It emphasised that all leaders and activists should strictly adhere to this directive in the greater interest of the party and the country.
