Chatradal holds meeting with 28 student orgs, Shibir and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement not invited
The Jatiotabadi Chatradal, the student wing of the BNP, held a meeting with 28 student organisations of the country tonight (5 December).
However, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir were not invited to the meeting, according to Chatradal leaders.
"We held a meeting with 28 student organisations, including Chhatra Union, Chhatra Maitri and Chhatra Federation, who are mainly active centred on Dhaka University. The Islamic Chatrashibir and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were not invited to this meeting," said Nasir Uddin, general secretary of Chatradal, told The Business Standard.
He also said, "We have started a dialogue with those who have fought against fascism for 15 and a half years. This meeting is the first step. Many more may be invited here in the future."
Student leaders at the meeting discussed various important contemporary issues including the current political situation, independence and sovereignty of the country, treatment of those injured in the July-August uprising, democratic environment of educational institutions, student parliament elections, the role of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, reads a press statement issued by the Bangladesh Chhatra Federation.
Criticising the role of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement the student leaders said since the uprising, the leaders of the platform have pushed the student organisations that participated in the student uprising to the other side.
The national unity that was built on the blood of thousands of people in the coup is on the verge of disintegration due to its use to save the interests of the group, the statement also reads.
"We think that the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement will not be able to deny the responsibility if there is a break in this national unity that was built through the coup," reads the press statement
