Conspiracies still on despite fall of the autocrat: Tarique
In his address to party leaders and workers, Tarique urged them to maintain the trust of the people
Even though the autocratic ruler fled, remnants of the rule continue to plot against the country, BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman said today (26 November).
Speaking at a workshop in Sylhet, Tarique said that those who benefited under the fallen autocrat are still conspiring and must be watched closely.
"The autocrat has left, but the beneficiaries are not sitting idle," Tarique said. "They are conspiring, and the people must remain alert and vigilant."
Tarique made the remarks during his closing speech at a workshop on "31-Point Outline for Structural Reforms in Bangladesh and Public Engagement," organised by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at the Sylhet Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
The BNP leader highlighted the importance of preserving democracy, saying, "We must stand in favour of democracy, we must keep democracy alive. Whatever election is held, it must follow the democratic process."
"We are the force in favour of democracy, and the people of the country are with us. They trust that democracy and freedom of speech are protected with BNP. This is why they are looking up to us. It is your duty to uphold their trust," he added.
In his address to party leaders and workers, Tarique urged them to maintain the trust of the people.
He said, "A 31-point declaration has been made by all the parties involved in Bangladesh's democratic movement. Most of these points focus on the state structure, and any reasonable proposals will be added. After today's discussion on the 31 points at the divisional level, they must be shared with the districts, upazilas, and unions to reach the public.
"While books may describe things beautifully, it is the people who must make them happen. With good intentions, we can achieve something meaningful."
The workshop, which began in the morning, was attended by leaders from the five units of the Sylhet Division, as well as central leaders. Tarique joined virtually in the afternoon to deliver his keynote address.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Shaheed Dr Milon Day, Tarique issued a message honouring the sacrifice of Dr Shamsul Alam Milon, a key figure in the anti-autocracy movement of the 1990s. Tarique expressed his deepest respect for Milon, who, he said, played a crucial role in restoring democracy to the country.
"The sacrifice of Shaheed Dr Milon will always inspire us," Tarique concluded.
