Country ruled in a manner resembling North Korea's one-party system
Bangladesh is currently governed in a one-party dominant state similar to North Korea, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said today.
"It is not merely a one-party nation; rather, it is a cruel one-party regime. Bangladesh finds itself in a situation where it has no alternative but to follow a path akin to North Korea, resulting in an increasing sense of isolation," he said in a virtual press briefing on Friday (10 November).
Rizvi also alleged that the ruling party is engaged in cases of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, custodial torture, ill-treatment, and widespread arbitrary detention of BNP leaders and activists.
He also pointed out several instances of mistreatment and the arrest of members of the 'persecuted' family by law enforcement forces under the pretext of house-to-house searches targeting BNP leaders and supporters.
"The government is spreading misinformation through various channels to create confusion about the peaceful political programmes of opposition parties," he added.
The BNP leader also urged all levels of the party's leadership and activists to take to the streets vehemently in protest, regardless of any fears or potential persecution, at any cost.
