Northern leaders vow to bury Ershad in Rangpur
The leaders said they want Ershad to be buried at Pallinibash in Darshana intersection in Rangpur city which bears a lot of memories of Ershad.
Jatiya Party leaders in north Bengal region have vowed to have party chairman HM Ershad buried in Rangpur at any cost, even if by sacrificing their lives.
The announcement came from a meeting on Monday morning in protest against the decision of burying Ershad at Dhaka Military Graveyard.
“Ershad was not allowed to be active well in politics in his lifetime,” said Rangpur Mayor and Jatiya Party Presidium member Mostafizur Rahman at the meeting. “Now conspiracy is being hatched against him and his party even after his death.”
“They have decided to bury him in military graveyard only to detach him from the general people and to destroy his party,” he added.
The leaders said they want Ershad to be buried at Pallinibash in Darshana intersection in Rangpur city which bears a lot of memories of Ershad.
Otherwise, Jatiya Party leaders and activists in Rangpur and Rajshahi will sacrifice their lives to prevent taking back Ershad’s body to Dhaka.
“We would not have any objection if Ershad was buried beside the graves of the three national leaders or if he was declared a national leader. The decision of burying him in a confined place is a conspiracy,” Mostafiz said.
Among others present in the meeting were former MP Shahanara Begum, Jatiya Party Joint General Secretary SM Yasir, Organising Secretary Haji Abdur Razzak, and Convener of Gaibandha JP Abdur Rashid Sarkar.
