By-poll: Nomination of Ziauddin Bablu cancelled for defaulting on loans
Bablu submitted his nomination paper as Jatiya Party candidate to contest the Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali-Chandgaon) by-election
The nomination paper submitted by former Jatiya Party Secretary General Ziauddin Bablu for Chattogram-8 constituency by-election has been cancelled on loan default charges.
Returning Officer and Regional Electoral Officer, Muhammad Hasanuzzaman, on Sunday afternoon rejected two nomination papers, including the one of Ziauddin Bablu, after scrutiny.
Returning Officer Hasanuzzaman said, "Eight candidates had submitted nomination papers to compete in the by-election. After scrutiny, nomination papers of six candidates were declared valid while rest two were cancelled. The candidates can appeal to the Election Commission against the decision within three days."
"Of theses, nomination paper of a candidate was cancelled as he was found to be loan defaulters in Sunday's scrutiny and the another was rejected for not filling up the form properly," he added.
Earlier, Jatiya Party picked Ziauddin Bablu as its candidate to contest the Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali-Chandgaon) by-election. The election for the constituency will be held on January 13 next year.
Ziauddin Bablu, as a grand alliance candidate, was elected Member of Parliament from Chattogram-9 (Kotwali) constituency in the 2014 parliamentary elections.
The former Secretary-General of the Jatiya Party hails from Raozan upazila of the district.
Earlier, the Election Commission declared the Chattogram-8 constituency vacant after the death of Moinuddin Khan Badal, president of a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal.
