Rain brings some relief in Dhaka
Light rain on Thursday afternoon brings relief for city dwellers as well as people in other parts of the country amid a prolonged period of heatwave.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 1.4 millimetre of rainfall in Dhaka city till 7pm, meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam told The Business Standard.
Starting at 5:30pm, the rainfall gradually transformed into drizzle after some time.
According to BMD, day temperature may fall by 1-3°C and night temperature may fall by 2-5°C across the country.
It also predicted that rain or thunder showers activity is likely to increase in the next five days.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department in its 24-hour weather forecast commencing 6pm Thursday said rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to continue in many places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions with hails at isolated places.
Mild heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and the district of Pabna and it may abate from most places, it added.
Country's maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded 38.6°C at Jashore while today's minimum temperature 18.8°C was recorded at Tetulia.
