Reactor Vessel, Steam Generator for Rooppur NPP arrive from Russia
With the arrival of this shipment, the long- nurtured dream of Bangladesh to build a nuclear power plant has taken another step towards achieving fruition, the Ministry said
Nuclear Reactor Pressure Vessel and a Steam Generator for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP), the country's first under-construction nuclear power project, have arrived in Bangladesh from Russia.
A ship of the Russian Federation, carrying the massive equipment, reached the outer anchorage of the Mongla Seaport on 19 October, after traveling 14,000 kilometers by sea from Russia.
On Tuesday (20 October), the ship anchored at Mongla Port and the equipment will be unloaded to a special barge for transportation to the Rooppur NPP project site in Pabna, reads a press release from the Science and Technology Ministry.
The special barge, carrying the Reactor Vessel, and Steam Generator, will leave Mongla Port on 5 November and reach the Rooppur river port along the River Padma, on 21 November.
With the arrival of this shipment, the long-nurtured dream of Bangladesh to build a nuclear power plant has taken another step towards achieving fruition, the Ministry said.
The arrival of the Reactor Vessel and Steam Generator marks a key milestone in the nuclear power plant project, thereby realizing the dream of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, it added.
The arrival of the massive equipment -- the Reactor Vessel weighs 333.6 tonnes, while the Steam Generator weighs 340 tonnes -- is a landmark event in the construction of the power plant.
Earlier in August, Russia shipped the main equipment of the Reactor facility for Unit No-1 of Rooppur NPP.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna consists of two units with a capacity of 1200 MW each.
