Railway exam to be cancelled if proof of question leak allegations found: PSC chairman
"It's a legal matter determining whether we have jurisdiction to annul past examinations, which requires careful consideration," added the PSC chairman.
The recruitment exam for the post of deputy assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway will be cancelled if proof of question paper leaks allegations is found, Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Sohorab Hossain said on Tuesday (9 July).
"A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the allegations of question paper leaks. Based on the probe body's report, the exam will be cancelled," said the PSC chairman at a press conference in the afternoon at the PSC in the capital's Agargaon.
Meanwhile, the committee, led by PSC Joint Secretary Abdul Alim Khan, has been asked to submit a report within 15 days. PSC Director (Non-Cadre) Begum Dilawez Durdana and Director (Unit-11) Mohammad Azizul Haque are made members of the committee.
The PSC Chairman mentioned, "I have not received any report from the CID so far, so no suspension letter has been officially prepared."
He stated, "Many individuals create some questions, upload them on Facebook, and falsely claim they are from the PSC."
Sohorab Hossain also stated, "If there is evidence of any allegations, action will be taken against me."
When asked what action will be taken against PSC officials who have been accused of question leaks, he said, "The moment an official is arrested, he or she will be suspended. We are ready for this."
The recruitment exam for 516 sub-assistant engineer posts in 11 categories of the 10th grade of the railway under the PSC was held last Friday.
On the other hand, a group of job seeker Diploma Engineers held a human chain and protest rally in front of the PSC in Agargaon for around three hours, demanding the cancellation of the recruitment exam for 10th-grade railway posts under the PSC.
They protested in front of the PSC headquarters, demanding exemplary punishment for those involved in the question leak and a re-recruitment examination. Later, around noon, they submitted a memorandum to the PSC chairman.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested 17 people on Tuesday, including two deputy directors and one assistant director of the PSC, on charges of question paper leak of various recruitment exams, including the aforesaid one.
The CID has filed a case against 80-90 persons, including 31 named, in connection with the leak of question papers of various recruitment examinations, including the PSC exam.
