Rifat murder case: Juvenile accused gets bail

The Barguna District and Sessions Judge’s Court on Wednesday granted bail to an under-aged accused in sensational Rifat Sharif murder case.
He is the second one to get bail in this case. Earlier, the High Court granted a conditional bail to Ayesha Siddika Minni, wife of deceased Rifat Sharif.
However, the Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sent six accused in the case, including one who secured bail on Wednesday, to juvenile correction centre in Jashore, considering their age.
Earlier on July 8, police arrested this accused. They brought him before the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court the same day and demanded a seven-day remand for him.
The court, however, placed him on a five-day remand.
The law enforcers, after the completion of the remand tenure, again brought him before the same court, and demanded another seven-day remand.
The court again granted a five-day remand.
After the completion of the second-phase remand, the accused on July 18, admitted his involvement in the murder before the court.
He was in prison since then.
The accused’s lawyer Advocate Golam Mustafa Kader said they submitted an appeal before the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on July 24, seeking bail for him, but that the court had rejected their plea.
Later, a missed case appeal was filed before the District and Sessions Judge’s Court on September 1, and the court, after completing hearing on Wednesday, granted his bail, he added.
Rifat Sharif was hacked to death by miscreants in front of Barguna Government College in broad daylight on June 26. His wife Ayesha Siddika Minni was present on the spot.
The police on September 1, submitted two charge sheets before the same court, in connection with the case. In one of the charge-sheets 14 juveniles were made accused, while in the other 10 adults were made accused.
