Trip of Chattogram-Dhaka route freight train cancelled
The train was scheduled to leave for Dhaka at 10am on Monday
Railway authorities have cancelled the trip of the freight train that travels along the Chattogram-Dhaka route due to a lack of goods.
The train was scheduled to leave for Dhaka at 10am on Monday. It had been transporting goods through this route since May 1.
Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Chattogram Railway Station Manager Ratan Kumar Chowdhury said the train did not leave since it did not have enough goods to transport.
The railway authorities said although the train operated for three days since May 1, there were not enough goods. Almost five compartments out of six remained empty, leading to losses for the railway authority.
Nasir Uddin Ahmed, General Manager of Bangladesh Railway (East Zone), said it is uncertain when the operations of the train will resume.
On May 1, Bangladesh Railway gave permission for three special freight trains on the Chattogram-Dhaka, Dhaka-Dewanganj, and Dhaka-Khulna routes for transporting food, perishable goods and daily essentials from farmers of different districts to Dhaka amid the countrywide shutdown.
