Secretariat fire: Those involved in plot to foil efforts against graft won’t be spared, says Adviser Asif
The adviser made the remarks after a massive fire gutted offices of multiple ministries at the secretariat early today
The people involved in the conspiracy to sabotage the interim government's efforts against corruption will not be spared under any circumstances, said LGRD and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud today (26 December), after a massive fire gutted offices of multiple ministries at the Bangladesh Secretariat early today.
"Those conspirators are not sitting idle. Those who will be found involved in the conspiracy to prove us failed will not be spared," Asif said.
"The extent of the damage caused by the fire is yet to be determined," he said while visiting the site of the fire at building 7 in the secretariat.
The adviser postponed his programme in Nilphamari and returned to Dhaka this morning after hearing the news of the incident.
During this time, the adviser asked the authorities to form ministerial probe committees to estimate the losses and identify the reasons behind the fire.
"We were working on the embezzlement and corruption that took place in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives in recent times. Evidence of the misappropriation of several thousand crore taka was also found," said Asif, who is also the youth and sports adviser.
Offices of the LGRD and cooperatives ministry and youth and sports ministry were housed in the secretariat's building 7, where the fire broke out in the early hours of today.
