Student movement coordinators 'robbed', attacked in Narayanganj
Movement convener Hasnat Abdullah shared details of the incident on social media, claiming that the attackers stole their bags and mobile phones
There was reportedly a robbery on the convoy of central coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila.
The incident occurred in Pirojpur Union last night (8 December) while the team was travelling from Dhaka to Lama in Bandarban.
Movement convener Hasnat Abdullah shared details of the incident on social media, claiming the attackers stole their bags and mobile phones. However, the identity of the attackers remains unknown.
Abdullah has called for a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
In a press release issued following the incident, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement condemned the attack and demanded immediate investigation and action, calling the incident a deliberate assault.
Kanchpur Highway Police Inspector Kazi Wahid Morshed confirmed the incident, saying, "The incident took place around 2am on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sonargaon's Pirojpur area. Preliminary investigations suggest it might be the work of robbers, but further investigation will determine whether it was an attack or a robbery."
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Narayanganj Asif Imam said, "We have learned about the incident. Legal actions are being taken regarding the matter."
