Students, people will announce political party in a month or two: Nasiruddin Patwary
"The Anti-discrimination Student Movement and National Citizens' Committee will present a political party within the next one or two months," says the convener of the National Citizens' Committee
The students and the people will announce a political party in a month or two, said Nasiruddin Patwary, convener of the National Citizens' Committee today (16 December).
"The Anti-discrimination Student Movement and National Citizens' Committee will present a political party within the next one or two months," he told media after paying tribute at the National Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Victory Day.
A 55-member platform called the National Citizens' Committee was launched on 8 September, with Muhammad Nasiruddin Patwari as the convener and Akhtar Hossain, a former social welfare secretary of Dhaka University Central Students' Union, as the member secretary.
The committee aims to support the interim government, bring it under accountability, and influence policymaking in the public interest.
The committee's tasks include upholding the democratic aspirations of the uprising, ensuring justice for those involved in the massacre of students and citizens, and cooperating with the interim government to reform state institutions.
'No election before AL, cohorts of fascism brought to book'
Speaking on the occasion, he also said, "No election will be held in Bangladesh before the Awami League and the cohorts of fascism are brought to book. Because even after '71, we have not yet been able to bring those who stood against the people of Bangladesh to justice. Those who conducted Jihad killings in the '90s have not been tried yet.
"With lessons from those incidents, there will be no election in Bangladesh before justice is ensured for [the crimes committed] during 2024 [mass uprising]."
He said if an election is held without ensuring justice for the crimes committed by AL and cohorts of fascism during the mass uprising, it will be a "betrayal to the 2,000 martyrs and the lakhs of injured".
