Bangladesh gets 3.9m new mobile, internet subscribers in September
In the same month, 10 lakh more users were added to the base of mobile subscribers in the country
Bangladesh registered 29 lakh new internet subscribers just in the month of September this year, indicating public's growing dependency on the internet amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the same month, 10 lakh more users were added to the base of mobile subscribers in the country, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) data revealed on Monday.
BTRC prepares this data based on the biometric verified subscribers who have used any service like voice, data or SMS at least once in the preceding 90 days.
In September, mobile operators received a large number of new internet subscribers while fixed internet or broadband internet witnessed poor growth.
At the end of September, the number of mobile phone subscribers reached 16.71 crore, up one million compared to the previous month.
Among the four mobile operators, the country's top operator Grameenphone received five lakh fresh subscribers while Robi Axiata Limited got three lakh subscribers.
As of 31 August, the subscriber base of GP was 7.7 crore, which stood at 7.75 crore at the end of September.
The subscriber base of Robi Axiata reached the five crore mark in September which was 4.97 crore in August.
The country's third largest mobile operator, Banglalink's subscriber base reached 3.47 crore at the end of September which was 3.45 crore in the previous month.
The state owned operator Teletalk, however, lost 40,000 subscribers from its fleet in the same period.
