Banglalink to offer inexpensive internet package for students

The country's third largest mobile phone operator is going to offer an inexpensive internet package for students to support them in e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a virtual press conference on Monday, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Erik Aas shared his views on Banglalink's role during the pandemic, its key undertakings, customers' benefits and other related issues, with journalists.
"We are in discussions with the government on the issue. However, it is yet to be finalised," he said.
The education ministry and different organisations have been urging mobile phone operators to provide students with cheap or free internet service so that they can participate in their online classes.
Announcing the performance of the operator in the second quarter of this year, the Banglalink CEO said its data revenue and data customer base grew by 30.3 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively, year-on-year.
"Banglalink has maintained its solid business momentum supported by impressive performance in the digital business segment despite the challenges that have emerged from the [novel] coronavirus outbreak," said Erik Aas.
Among others, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman, Chief Financial Officer Cem Velipasaoglu, Sales and Distribution Director Mohammad Zubayed Ul Islam and other top management members of the company also participated in the virtual press conference.
As part of Banglalink's increased focus on embracing digital services, Erik Aas further said that his company is committed to providing its customers with better services by investing more in network enhancement.
He welcomed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission's move to implement significant market power guidelines, which he believes is a positive step towards establishing a level-playing field in the telecommunications industry.
He reiterated Banglalink's firm commitment to enhancing customers' digital experiences by introducing more innovative digital products and platforms.
