Bus driver, helper detained over rape threat to Badrunnesa College student
The elite force will brief the media regarding the incident in a press conference
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained the bus driver and helper over an alleged rape threat made to a female student of Begum Badrunnesa College as she offered half bus fare.
The detainees, Rubel and Mehedi Hasan, were captured from the Shiddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Sunday afternoon.
The elite force will brief the media regarding the incident in a press conference.
Tumpa, a classmate of the student who was threatened by the transport worker, said the accuser boarded a bus of Thikana Paribahan from Shanir Akhra to Begum Badrunnesa College. The fare for the route is Tk10, but the student was charged Tk15.
"The bus helper spoke inappropriately to her as she asked for the exchange identifying herself as a student. He also threatened to rape her as she was getting off the bus after reaching her destination," said Tumpa.
Protesting the incident, hundreds of agitated pupils of the college blocked Bakshibazar road in the capital on Sunday morning.
They left the street at noon after placing an eight point-demand to the authorities including a 24-hour ultimatum for the arrest of the accused.
Other demands of the students include ensuring half fare for students and ceasing harassment in public transports by bus drivers and helpers.
