Truck torched in clash over extortion in Kaliganj, 3 injured
A truck was set on fire during a clash reportedly over extortion in the Tumulia area of Kaliganj today (1 January) around 4am, which left three people injured.
According to police and locals, the clash took place at around 4am when the truck arrived from Rupganj to Kaliganj, said local Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Alauddin.
Then, a local group stopped the truck to demand extortion money. Another group intervened, opposing the extortion attempt and demanding the money themselves, he said.
An altercation ensued, escalating into a violent clash, leaving three people injured, he added.
One of the injured was identified as Sohel, 35, while the identities of the others were yet to be confirmed.
The OC said, "We have brought the truck driver and helper to the station to gather information and take further legal action."
