Two sentenced to death, 3 to life in Kushtia murder
A Kushtia court has sentenced two people to death and three others to life imprisonment in the Sohag murder case.
The Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Court ordered hanging Mohammad Nazmul, son of Ahad Ali of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia, and Md Roni, son of Abul Kalam of Baro Mile area Bheramara upazila.
Mohammad Rabbi, son of Ismail Hossain of Kushtia’s Chourhash area, Md Shuja, son of Abdul Aziz of Kumaragara, and Md Rafiq, son of Md Khalil of Chourhash, were sentenced to life.
Judge Arup Kumar Goswami declared the verdict on Wednesday morning.
The only accused present during the verdict was Md Roni while the other accused remain fugitives.
According to court sources, Shohag, son of Abbas Uddin of the district’s Kumargara area, was murdered by the five accused for a mobile phone on October 9, 2012.
Bheramana police later recovered Sohag’s body from a garden near the Hardinge Bridge in the upazila.
Sohag’s uncle Khaled Shahidul Islam filed the murder case with Bheramara police station, accusing the five.
On April 7, Bheramara police submitted the charge sheet to the court.
Following the verdict, convict Md Roni was taken to Kushtia District Jail under police custody.
The punishment will be effective after all the five accused are detained.
