The July uprising has made it clear that the country has been led towards misrule in the past 50 years, Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmin S Murshid said today.
"Those who came to power in the country in this period, as well as those who were out of power, indulged in injustice, so the movement of 2024 had to take place," she said while speaking at the 18th National Youth Conference of Youth Ending Hunger Bangladesh held in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Sharmin also said, "The revolution of 2024 took place to resolve the issues that were unresolved since 1971. Through the Liberation War, we got the country and its flag, but we could not build the country."

Stating that the uprising was a movement to change the social system that has been fragile for many years, she said, "The power that has come out of this movement can change the country. We believe that the awakened youth will change the country this time."
Speaking at the event, Badiul Alam Majumder, head of the Electoral Reform Commission, said, "During Sheikh Hasina's tenure, there was no freedom of speech, right to vote, or human rights. There were serious human rights violations, corruption, looting, and money laundering. The country had become a paradise for corruption and corruption.
"For democracy to be effective and for good governance to be established, we all need harmony."
