DNCC campaign to increase revenue collection begins September 1
The campaign will be conducted in other DNCC areas later
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has adopted a plan to increase the tax net without increasing the tax rate. This will help to enhance services for residents and, the development activities can reach the doorsteps of the people by achieving financial self-reliance.
To implement the plan, a month-long stringent campaign will be launched in all the wards under DNCC Zone-2 (Mirpur) and Zone-5 (Karwan Bazar) from September 1.
The campaign will be conducted in other DNCC areas later.
A preparatory meeting was held at Nagar Bhaban of DNCC in the Gulshan area of the capital on Monday afternoon, reads a press release.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam chaired the meeting.
The campaign aims to increase the scope of taxes; including the excluded holding or organisations from taxation; increasing the involvement of ward councillors in revenue department activities; inspiring people to pay taxes, among others.
The houses/ establishments which are not paying taxes, and the newly constructed flats/ houses/ establishments will be brought under the tax net during this campaign.
Besides, commercial organisations operating without trade licenses will also be identified and brought under trade licenses in a lawful manner. Furthermore, the commercial entities that are operating on expired trade licenses will also be identified and will be brought under a renewing scheme.
A six-member committee has been formed in each ward. The ward councillor has been made the convener while the councillor of the reserved seat is the joint convener of the committee to ensure smooth campaign operation.
A deputy-tax officer will act as the member secretary of the committee. This committee will identify households and unlicensed businesses.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said, "People should be able to pay taxes while sitting at home in digital Bangladesh. From January 1, 2021, city residents will be able to pay all types of DNCC taxes online, without having to go to the DNCC regional office."
The goal of this campaign is to increase the tax net, not increase the taxes. If the total revenue increases, the quality of citizen services can also be further improved, he added.
