DNCC finds Aedes larvae at 883 establishments, fines Tk23 lakh
Aedes larvae were found in the highest number of installations in Mohakhali area
The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has found Aedes mosquito larvae in 883 establishments after inspecting around 1.34 lakh houses and construction sites during a 10-day drive conducted to protect city dwellers from dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
The drive started from 2 November and ended on 14 November (Saturday).
So far, the DNCC mobile court has realised Tk22.83 lakhs as fines.
The DNCC has conducted the drives in zone-1, zone-6 and zone-8 on Saturday, the 10th day of the drive. Earlier, the drives in these areas were suspended on 12 November due to Dhaka-18 by-election.
They also found suitable environments for Aedes mosquito breeding at 82,072 houses among the total number of places inspected during the drive that started on 2 November.
Aedes larvae were found in the highest number of establishments (335) in Mohakhali area (Zone-3) of DNCC while the second highest (145) in Uttara area (Zone-1) and the third highest (139) in Karwan Bazar area (Zone-5).
During the drives at Mirpur 2 (Zone-2), Mirpur 10 (Zone-4), Harirampur (Zone-6), Dakkhin Khan (Zone-6), Uttarkhan (Zone-6), Bhatara (Zone-9) and Satarkul (Zone-10), Aedes larvae were found in 60, 40, 68, 30, 11, 49 and 6 establishments respectively.
All possible Aedes mosquito breeding grounds have been cleaned and the 4th generation larvicide, Novaluron, have been sprayed during the drives.
Sources at the DNCC said the authorities have found evidence that Novaluron remains effective for around 90 days once applied.
So far, the DNCC teams have searched 539,616 houses, establishments and building construction sites in total this year and found Aedes larvae at 4,260 places.
This year, the DNCC mobile courts have realised a total of Tk81 lakh 110 as fines during the drives.
