US Awami League protest in front of UN, Al-Jazeera office
United States Awami League has staged a rally in front of United Nations and Al-Jazeera office in New York protesting the corruption allegations against top Bangladeshi officials in a report that aired on Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television last Monday.
At the rally, protesters described the Al-Jazeera report as a fabrication and an anti-Bangladesh conspiracy on Friday.
Speakers at the rally said Al Jazeera's report against the Sheikh Hasina government was politically motivated and untrue.
Leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliates claimed the report is a tactical conspiracy of those who still cannot accept the independence of Bangladesh and withstand the trial of war criminals and killers of Bangabandhu.
The rally was chaired by Siddiqur Rahman, former president of United States Awami League, and protest rally addressed by Abdus Samad Azad, former acting general secretary. Former Publicity Secretary Dulal Mia Enam, Former International Affairs Secretary Dewan Bazlu, Former Expatriate Affairs Secretary Mohammad Solaiman Ali, Former VP and Central Volunteer League International joint-Secretary Md. Sakhawat Biswas, Connecticut State AL President Jihadul Haque Jihad and Michigan Metropolitan AL President Mozammel Khan Makhan also attended the rally.
