Wife files case over Cumilla Jubodal leader Touhidul's death

A case has been filed in connection with the death of Jubodal leader Touhidul Islam, who was found dead after being picked by joint forces in Cumilla.
Yesterday night, Touhidul's wife, Yeasmin Nahar, filed a complaint naming six individuals and 20-25 unidentified people with Kotwali Model Police Station. This complaint was registered as a case today (5 February), Officer-in-Charge of the police station Mahinul Islam confirmed the matter.
The named accused are Saiful Islam, Tanzil Uddin, Nazmul Hasan Titu, Khairul Hasan Mahfuz, Saidul Hassan Sabuj and Sohel. All are from the sadar upazila.
According to the case document, Yeasmin Nahar alleged that some 20-25 people picked up Touhidul on 31 January during the kulkhani of his father who had died on 26 January.
She said he was murdered due to a land dispute with the accused. "The accused had threatened to kill Touhidul several times in the past."
Touhidul Islam, 42, convener of Panchthuri union unit of Jubo Dal in Cumilla Sadar upazila, was picked up from home by joint forces on 31 January and later died at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
Family members have claimed that he was tortured to death, as physicians found torture marks on his body.
Following the incident, the camp commander of the joint force was immediately withdrawn. The Armed Forces Division has formed a high-level investigation committee to probe the incident and take action against those found guilty under military law, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
