9 bordering villages in Chuadanga under lockdown
In the wake of an upward trend in Coivid-19 cases in Chuadanga, the local administration on Sunday imposed a seven-day lockdown in nine bordering villages under Damurhuda upazila of the district.
The villages are Phulbari, Chakalia, Thakurpur of Kuralgachhi union, and Jhanjhadanga, Kamarpara, Baradi, Nastipur, Chhotoboldia, Boroboldia of Parkripur-Madna union.
Dilara Rahman, upazila nirbahi officer of Damurhuda, confirmed the news and said, "The upazila administration has enforced the lockdown due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. Restrictions have been imposed. Local tea shops have been closed. Roads are barricaded with red flags and bamboo."
She added that precautionary measures have been taken to ensure that the Indian variant of the novel coronavirus does not spread.
SAM Zakaria Alam, chairman of Parkripur-Madna union, said, "People are abiding by the lockdown rules to keep themselves safe and free from the coronavirus. Food assistance will be provided to the helpless and needy people."
Earlier on 2 June, the upazila administration announced a lockdown in Shibnagar, Harirampur, Jahajpota, Pirpurkulla, Munshipur, Kutubpur and Hudapara villages of Karpasdanga union.
