UP chairman in Chattogram suspended over relief distribution irregularities
District administration has also issued a show-cause asking why the chairman should not be suspended permanently
Md Nurul Absar, chairman of Mirzapur Union Parishad in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram has been temporarily suspended over irregularities in distributing relief.
The directive was signed on Sunday by Md Iftikher Ahmed Chowdhury, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
Earlier, the district administration recommended his suspension as per the Local Government Law, 2009, after allegations of misappropriation in relief distribution were proved true after an investigation, the directive reads.
The district administration has also issued a show-cause notice asking why the chairman should not be suspended permanently. Nurul Absar has to respond within 10 days.
On April 6, Absar took back the relief form jobless poor people in Mirzapur after taking photos with them.
The deprived people, who were also beaten up, complained to the Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin.
After Nurul failed to provide proper information on how much relief had been distributed, some councillors of the union also complained to the UNO expressing non-confidence against the chairman.
