Ctg isolation centre with 60 health officials to launch Sunday
The centre will also be able to admit coronavirus patients from outside the city. Non-covid-19 patients will also be transferred to specialised hospitals according to their disease after receiving immediate service
Sixty healthcare officials including 16 doctors have been appointed to the isolation centre of the 250-bed hospital in Chattogram, managed by the city corporation.
The isolation centre will start operations from Sunday. Public Health Expert Dr Sushanta Barua has been given the responsibility of being its director.
The appointees have already been trained on providing Covid-19 health services in a three-day workshop.
The centre has 50 oxygen cylinders, and arrangements for a High Flow Nasal Cannula is in the plan.
According to sources at the Chattogram City Corporation, coronavirus infection cases have crossed the 6,000 mark as of Saturday. However, the city has only 668 isolation beds in eight health complexes. Obviously, the medical care facilities are extremely inadequate to deal with the number of infection cases.
With this in mind, Chattogram Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin took the initiative to transform the City Convention Hall Community Center at Agrabad Access Road into a Covid-19 isolation centre to facilitate access to healthcare for coronavirus patients and alleviate the isolation crisis.
The city mayor said the newly established isolation centre has provided all the necessary arrangements for the treatment of coronavirus patients in the city of about seven million inhabitants.
He said the centre will also be able to admit coronavirus patients from outside the city. Non-covid-19 patients will also be transferred to specialised hospitals according to their disease after receiving immediate service.
He said arrangements have been made so that no patient returns from the centre without treatment. The mayor called on the doctors and nurses to be aware of their responsibilities to ensure medical care for the patients who come to the coronavirus isolation centre.
