Mongla Port Municipality to go into week-long strict lockdown
The coronavirus infections have increased in the district at an alarming rate in the last 15 days, with Mongla Port Municipality accounting for the highest number of cases
The district administration of Bagerhat has announced a one-week stringent lockdown at the Mongla Port Municipality, in an effort to deal with the alarming upsurge in Covid infections there.
"The lockdown will come into effect at 6 am on Thursday (10 June) and remain in place until 16 June midnight," Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Azizur Rahman said, adding that the decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the District Coronavirus Monitoring Committee on Wednesday.
During this period, all kinds of public transport, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and vessel movement will remain suspended in the municipality, except for the emergency and food parcel services.
Moreover, police, administrative officials and public representatives, as well as the Coast Guard members, will be present on the ground to ensure that people comply with lockdown restrictions and health guidelines.

In the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning, the health authorities tested a total of 154 people of the district and found 68 of those to be infected with the viral disease, which took the infection rate to 44%.
Besides, some four Covid patients lost their battle for life during the period.
So far, a total of 1,962 people contracted coronavirus in Bagerhat and 51 died from it.
