Municipality employees demand Covid-19 compensation
Four municipality employees have died of the virus
The Bangladesh Association of Pourasava Service (BAPS) has demanded financial compensation for municipality employees who have been infected with, or died of, the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Some 93 employees – including 10 mayors, 17 councillors and 66 staff members – have been infected. Four people – including three councillors and one staff member – have died of the viral infection, said the municipality body issuing a press release on Friday.
The municipality employees are serving the nation, risking their lives, said BAPS, and claimed financial facilities like that of other government employees are being provided.
BAPS on behalf of 328 municipalities in the country urged the Local Government Division and Financial Division to take steps immediately in this regard to maintain the quality of service in the municipalities.
