Tk1cr compensation for defense secretary, Dr Moyeen’s families
Through this, the government is kicking off compensation payment to the families of frontline government employees in the battle against Covid-19 pandemic
The families of Defence Secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College's Assistant Professor Md Moyeen Uddin, who died of the novel coronavirus, are going to receive compensation of Tk50 lakh each.
Through this, the government is kicking off the compensation payment to the families of frontline government employees in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Monday, the finance division sent separate letters to the chief accounting officer to sanction a total of Tk1 crore in the names of the two families – Tk50 lakh each.
The letters, signed by Joint Secretary Mohammad Abu Yusuf, said the drawing and discharging officer (DDO) of the finance division would hand over the compensation cheques to the wives of the two Covid-19 victims.
The letter mentioned that the expenditure would be made from the Tk500 crore allocated in the 2020-21 budget for the "Special Grants for Health Risk Compensation."
Moyeen Uddin was the first doctor to have died of the coronavirus. He passed away on April 15. Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury died on June 29.
Finance ministry officials said the families of those who have died of coronavirus will be compensated first. The government employees who have recovered from the infection will be compensated later.
After the coronavirus cases were first reported in the country on March 8, the government announced compensation for the frontline government employees – Tk5-10 lakh for those who contract the virus and Tk25-50 lakh for those who die.
